Former VP Kazibwe leads AU polls observer team in Liberia

The republic of Liberia held her presidential and parliamentary elections on October 11, 2011 in conformity with electoral timetable.

FORMER Vice-President, Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe is leading a team of African Union (AU) observer to Liberia for Presidential and Parliamentary elections. 

The republic of Liberia will hold her presidential and parliamentary elections starting October 11, 2011 in conformity with electoral timetable.

 Dr. Kazibwe flew out of the country to join the African Union team members from other states. The observer’s team includes, Pan African Parliamentarians, head of institutions responsible for elections and representatives from civil society organizations.

From 1994 until 2003, Dr. Kazibwe served as Uganda's Vice President and as Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. She has been an advocate for women in their position in Africa.

“The Liberian authorities would like to involve African Union in this event. According to relevant provisions of Durban declarations. The commission has been duly invited to send an African union team to observe the elections,” Statement from African Union Commission states.

Kazibwe invitation letter was signed by Jean Ping chairperson African Union Commission.
