Uganda’s Stephen Luswata failed to finish the first round, but came back to post good scores in the next two rounds as the sailing competition started at Club Maritimo De Maputo on Thursday.

On the first of the four-day event, Luswata had a technical problem and managed to get the maximum penalty of 18 points in round One, but a score of 9.0 in round 2 and an improved 7.0 in round three, where he did quite well saw him finish the first action in 11th position out of 17th sailors that are taking part in the games.

“It was a small fault and I am improving. I cannot be in the top five as those are professionals and they form their own group ahead, but I am targeting to finish at least in the top eight. Hopeful there will be no more technical faults this time round,” said Luswata.

The table tennis players were also still battling for positions, having lost the battle for medals. They are now eyeing the doubles competitions that start Friday at Centro Islamico institute in Maputo.
