SAVE Our Soccer (SOS) is back on the Ugandan football scene with plans to force out a second successive FUFA president through the courts of law.
The football pressure group that started in 2002 forced out then FUFA boss Denis Obua out of FUFA House in 2005 to usher in the current president Lawrence Mulindwa and then it was disbanded.
Now they have resurfaced as SOS II to prefer criminal charges against Mulindwa accusing him of ‘underhand’ methods of running football among other accusations.
Whether their campaign will get the massive support it did during Obua’s reign remains to be seen as many of the fans, who supported them that time have skeptical about the timing as the national football team is on the brink of ending 34 years out of Africa Game of Nations.
In a three page press release signed brains behind the pressure group Aldrine Nsubuga Snr (KCC FC spokesman), Dennis Mbidde (SC Villa fans coordinator) and his club president Fred Muwema, SOS will take Mulindwa to courts of law for disrupting football activities.
"We are opening criminal charges on Lawrence Mulindwa, Moses Magogo and Sam Lwere for common nuisance, disruption of lawful activities of Uganda Super League and for crimes related to economic sabotage. SOS II has started action to make him bow to the beautiful game," the press release said in part.
The allegations stem from FUFA attempts to stop the Uganda Super League kick off at different venues across the country arguing that the managers USLL did not meet some conditions the federation demands from them. Nsubuga and Mbidde worked with FUFA but fell off later.
