THE Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) is concerned over the lack of a minimum wage law and a social security policy in the country as the East African Community integration gets to advanced stages.

“We are concerned about labour law reforms, especially regarding the minimum wage and absence of a social security policy in this country,” Rosemary Ssenabulya, the FUE executive director, said. “Ugandans might be exposed to unfair competition and exploitation when labour is allowed to move freely across the region,” she added.

Ssenabulya was speaking at the launch of the body’s maiden three-year business agenda at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel last week.

The plan focuses on skills development, labour law and social security reforms and taxes in the short-term.
