FORMER Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has cautioned the Buganda parliamentary caucus against meeting Katikkiro J.B. Walusimbi.

Bukenya the Busiro North MP regretted that MPs from Buganda are not as united as legislators from other regions.

“We should avoid taking the Buganda caucus as a by-the way. We must have both closed meetings for sensitive matters and open ones. Let us go to the katikkiro when prepared and organized.”

Bukenya was contributing to a debate on the invitation by Katikkiro walusimbi extended to the caucus members.

The Buganda caucus under the leadership of godfrey Kiwanda ( Mityana North) and latiff Ssebaggala (Kawempe North) will meet the Katikkiro on Tuesday.

Katikkiro has since four months back extended the invitation to MPs to mainly congratulate them upon their election to parliament and to present to them the Buganda kingdom key issues to push for.

Bukenya regretted that Buganda had drastically changed in many ways quiet detrimental to Kabaka’s subjects.

He said the situation could only be improved through solidarity and commitment to the caucus.

However Ssebaggala said that there was no need to prepare since the Katikkiro was to present to them the kingdom’s stand on certain issues after which they would organize a retreat to deliberate on the issues.

Dr. J.C. Muyingo supported Bukenya on the issue of a retreat arguing that it would help new members of the caucus to be abreast with kingdom issues.

Bukenya offered to finance 50% of the retreat while MPs catered for accommodation.

Muyingo also noted that legislators from other regions are more committed to their areas than MPs from Buganda depicted in the big turn up for their meetings.

Walusimbi had invited the MPs on September 14 but because of a retreat for NRM legislators at Kyankwazi they are to meet him at Bulange on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Few MPs turned up for preparatory meeting held on Friday morning in the parliament lounge.

The poor turn up was attributed to poor coordination, the budget debate in the House and other committees which had convened.

Several MPs supported the idea of meeting the katikkiro when organised so that they speak with one voice.

Tim Lwanga (Kyamuswa) urged his colleagues to always attend others’ functions in the region and to have Buganda at heart.

Betty namboze (Mukono municipality0 informed the MPs of Buganda kingdom health Day to be marked at Muggulu sazza headquarters in Mukono district next Friday.

MPs resolved to contribute some money towards the success of the function which will be graced by Kabaka Ronald Mutebi.

Kiwanda distributed copies of the proposed guidelines of the Buganda Parliamentary caucus which would be improved on.

The caucus is in the process of electing new office bearers after the expiry of the eighth parliament where many new MPs have come in.
