SH20m mysteriously went missing over the weekend from the cash office in Okello House, one of the State House premises, New Vision has learnt.

As a result, the two cashiers who were on duty at the time the money got lost have been suspended, Capt. Edison Kwesiga, the Special Forces Group (SFG) spokesperson, said yesterday.

Kwesiga, however, declined to name the suspended cashiers, saying investigations were on.

“It is true sh20m went missing over the weekend at one of the State House premises (Okello House). The SFG investigations arm has been called to investigate the matter,” remarked Kwesiga.

Asked whether the Police had been informed about the theft, Kwesiga said they were at the moment handling the matter internally with and would only involve the Police if they deem it necessary.

He dismissed reports that the money had been stolen after thieves broke into the building.
“The money went missing in the cash office. There was no break-in,” Kwesiga revealed.

This is the second time State House premises have been attacked by thieves this year. In mid June, suspected thieves broke into the medicine and health service delivery and monitoring unit head offices and stole computers containing vital information on corruption investigations.

President Yoweri Museveni set up the unit, headed by Dr. Diana Atwine, which operates under direct State House supervision.
