THE Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has renewed its relationship with Nile Breweries in a sh390m three-year deal.

Nile Breweries that was one of USPA corporate sponsors in 1974 delighted the sports scribes with a timely return after a 10-year absence.

The sight of a beaming USPA president Mark Namanya and Nile Breweries marketing director Daniel Ogong signing the contract at Kabira Country Club with the association’s founder chairman Freddie Ssekito on sight signaled good times ahead.

The sh130m annual sponsorship will cover the association’s Annual Sports Awards Gala, Sports Journalists Awards, Sports Person of the Month Award and a retainer fee. Nile Breweries funding starts with the 2011 USPA Gala and 2010 October Nile-USPA Sports Person of the Month award.

USPA will also revamp the monthly awards where the winner will be rewarded over a cocktail party.

“We are into sports sponsorship and naturally we had to support USPA which recognizes excellence. We want to make these activities bigger,” Ogong said.

Namanya said: “We are grateful to our previous sponsor Uganda telecom. As USPA we are also delighted to partner with Nile. We will work together to develop sports.” USPA lawyer Charles Egou witnessed the contract signing.
