When Elias Lukwago was declared Lord Mayor in March this year, among the pledges he made was transforming Kampala Capital City Authority into a formidable sporting institution.

At the time, KCC FC were involved in some-sort of rebuilding process and among the new players brought in after financial blessings from the Lord Mayor-led executive was striker Michael Birungi from Utoda.

It was thus a befitting coincidence that Lukwago was at hand to witness Birungi torment his former side with two first half strikes for a 4-1 victory on an afternoon rivals SC Villa registered a losing start in Masaka, and Express FC preserved their winning run against BIDCO.

At Namboole Stadium, Andrew Sekayombya also plundered a brace deep into the second half although both goals were a product of careless goal keeping and sloppy defending.

“We finished well today. When the season ended, we went back and reviewed our attack and the finishing today proved that. Our strikers looked sharp,” KCC coach Matia Lule said after the game.

Elsewhere, although Villa are setting the trend off-pitch, they will have to do much better in justifying their credentials where it really matters –on the pitch.

Four days after their lavish awards ceremony, the record national champions seemed to suffer from some sort of hangover after going down to Daniel Oyirwoth goal.

At Wankulukuku, Edgar Luzige and Julius Ogwang combined to inspire Express to a 2-0 win over BIDCO while Anthony Bongole missed a penalty 20 minutes to time to deny Proline what could have been a deserved winner against Police.

At Nakivubo, Robert Kimuli helped Bunamwaya to a 1-1 draw after Sam Ssennoga had helped Water to a first half early lead.
