Byaruhanga tightens grip on Uganda Open

Rogers Byaruhanga has proved to be a strong contender for the 71st edition of the Uganda Golf Open after shooting four over par 76 to retain the lead on day two. <br>The four-day tournament is hosted by Uganda Golf Club.

Rogers Byaruhanga has proved to be a strong contender for the 71st edition of the Uganda Golf Open after shooting four over par 76 to retain the lead on day two.
The four-day tournament is hosted by Uganda Golf Club.

Byaruhanga with a two-day aggregate of 141 goes into the crucial third round on Friday five stroke ahead of second place Henry Lujja from Entebbe.
Toro’s Adolf Muhumuza is third at 146 while Jinja Golf Club’s Abbey Bagalana slipped from second to fourth spot-- eight shots off the pace.

With John Basabose down in ninth place, 13 shots off the pace, Byaruhanga remains the only Uganda Golf Club with an inside chance of winning Uganda’s premier golf event.

The professional event was still going on by 4:00pm. Only 20 of the 49 will proceed to the third on Friday.

Early scores trickling in indicate that day one-leader Rogers Byaruhanga has clung atop the Uganda Golf Open leader-board as the second round progresses.

Byaruhanga who fired seven under par 65 on Wednesday shot 76 on Thursday but remains at the top.

Byaruhanga with a two-day aggregate of 141 was five strokes clear of second placed Henry Lujja who had the day’s best score at midday.

Jinja Golf Club’s Abbey Bagalana who was third-- eight shots off the pace.

The scores were still coming through.

The last group in the professional event teed off at midday and only 20 of the 49 competitors will advance to the third round tomorrow.
