MEMBERS of Parliament, who have been waiting to cruise in cars provided by the Government, may have to rethink as Parliament says it has never promised them cars.

Parliament commissioner, Chris Baryomunsi, told Saturday Vision yesterday that Parliament has never made a decision to give cars to the members of the 9th parliament.

He insisted that the issue has never even been part of the parliamentary commission agenda and “we have never budgeted for them.”

“There are no cars for MPs. They have to use what they have because the economy is not good. We have to address the needs of others,” Baryomunsi said.

Since the beginning of the 9th Parliament, sources said the MPs have been putting the commission under pressure to give them money for cars.
Several MPs had resorted to getting loans to purchase cars.

Saturday Vision
saw copies of documents of legislators who had applied for car loans.

Earlier, sources had revealed that members of the commission were having difficult time in enforcing the MPs’ demand after parliament failed to get money to increase teachers and medical workers’ salaries.

“We are in a dilemma. We cannot push for our interests while denying other people’s interest,” a commissioner said.
