The Bishop of Masaka Diocese has asked the Government to help private health centres treat patients, especially victims of accidents, who cannot pay for health services.

John Baptist Kaggwa was addressing health workers from church-founded hospitals and health centres in Masaka diocese at Bwala Social Centre last Friday,

Kaggwa said the private hospitals, especially Kitovu Hospital, receive patients who cannot pay their bills.

Kaggwa said the Government should help provide the health centres with equipment, medicine and medical personnel.

“When Masaka district was split into three, the funding that used to come to Kitovu Hospital was scrapped. We have tried to follow up the matter at district and national level, but we have not got anything,” Kaggwa said.

He added that in many cases, patients were referred to the private hospital from Masaka Hospital, which receives funds from the Government.
