Museveni fund-raises for Tanzanian University

The University of Dar es salaam alumni in Uganda led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni are hoping to raise over one billion shillings towards the construction of a multipurpose facility for a residential hall as part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Dar es salaam.

The University of Dar es salaam alumni in Uganda led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni are hoping to raise over one billion shillings towards the construction of a multipurpose facility for a residential hall as part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Dar es salaam.

On Friday September 30, 2011, the alumni will hold a final fundraising dinner at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala that will be graced by President Museveni. Alumni in the East African community are holding parallel events to raise money towards the facility before the anniversary celebrations in Tanzania later in October.

In July this year, President Yoweri Museveni launched a fundraising campaign at a luncheon he hosted at Entebbe State House during which over 300 million shillings was raised towards the cause.

President Museveni is one of the prominent leaders who graduated top of his class from the university.

Other leaders include the current President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, the late John Garang of Southern Sudan, Asha-Rose Migiro, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Laurent-Desire Kabila the former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda’s Vice President Edward Ssekandi and Gertrude Mongella the President of the Pan African Parliament.

Others include; Amanya Mushega Nuwe former chairman of the East African Community, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for EAC Affairs in Uganda Eriya Kategaya, Francis K. Butagira and Ugandan Ambassador to Germany, Justice Bashaija, Justice Hellen Abua and Justice Kitumba are all products of Dar es salaam University.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs Eriya Kategaya who is coordinating the fund raising in Uganda appealed to all alumni, well-wishers, corporate companies and all Ugandans of good will to contribute towards this noble cause by booking a place at the dinner for sh300,000 (plate), sh5m (Platinum table), sh4m million (Gold table) and sh2m (Silver table).

Contributions can also be deposited directly to the Uganda Association for the University of Dar es salaam Alumni account No. 0121152200400 at Housing Finance Bank, Kololo Branch.
