Muslims demand reopening of Mosques

KAMPALA - Majority of the Muslims have observed Eid-al-Fitr prayers which mark an end to their holy fasting at their respective homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. 

However, scientific prayers were held today (Sunday) at Gadaffi national Mosque and the residence of Prince Kassim Nakibinge in Kibuli.

In his remarks, the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje used the Eid prayers to demand for the re-opening of worshipping places with standard operating procedures, noting that it is essential for the country at this moment of COVID-19 pandemic. 

"If the public transport is to be allowed to operate then even worshipping places should be re-opened so that people can congregate to pray for their country to overcome this pandemic," Mubajje said.

He added, "People see us going to State House to pray and they also want to be allowed to pray since our motto is ‘For God and My Country."

At Kibuli, Nakibinge paid tribute to people who have been battered by heavy rains like those near the lakeshores and those in flooded Kasese district and asked Allah to relieve them of the hardship.
