COVID-19: Muyingo donates food, medicine, newspapers to Luweero

HEALTH  COVID-19  RELIEF

As the numbers of people in need of relief and those infected with Coronavirus goes up in the country, the state minister for higher education Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has donated food, medical supplies and newspapers to people in Luweero district. Currently, there are 101 people infected. 

Dr. Muyingo handed over the 15 tonnes of food, 1,000 copies of Bukedde newspapers with homeschooling materials, and medical equipment which included drip water, sanitizers and medicine; worth sh40m. 

He said, he plans to have more copies of newspapers bought and delivered in the district, should the parents put to good use the first batch he has delivered.

The minister asked learners, all over the country, to focus on reading the materials sent by the Government and the newspapers under Vision Group

 
He handed over the donation to the district's Resident District Commissioner Phoebe Namulindwa and the Local Council V chairperson Ronald Ndawula; in a press event held at the district headquarters in Luweero. They were flanked by the General Manager of the Savings and Credit Society, Ritah Sebutinde; which also donated five tonnes of food, through Dr. Muyingo. 

Dr. Muyingo thanked President Yoweri Museveni for the good guidance he has rendered in the fight against the scourge. "He has guided well the country, and listened to the concerns raised by Ugandans and we strongly applaud him." 

He also appealed to the people to follow the guidelines set by the ministry of health; including social distancing, washing hands regularly, wearing masks in public and staying home. 

"I know that our people need to be helped to get food in this lockdown. All the stuff I have donated, through the district officials, are for the people of Luwero, but more especially the people in Bamunanika," he explained. He is also a Member of Parliament for Bamunanika County in Luweero.

He appealed to the officials at the district to work with all constituencies to ensure that those in need, are urgently availed the relief supplies, being donated. 

"I thank all the people in our communities, like taxi drivers and motorcyclists who have joined farming to secure their families. Even when the lockdown has ended, do not give up," Dr. Muyingo advised.  

The minister asked learners, all over the country, to focus on reading the materials sent by the Government and the newspapers under Vision Group, which are sharing additional content from teachers. "The Government content and that of Vision Group, was prepared by experts who know education issues. So, make good use of these materials," he advised.  

The state minister also called upon other groups and individuals to buy newspapers and support the Vision Group's cause, "Which has greatly supported the Government effort in promoting home schooling during this time."  

Ndawula thanked the minister, and noted that no one had in the district, been able to donate to his magnitude. "The sacrifice you have made is rare and not so many people can match what you have done for us, in this COVID-19, fight. We applaud you," he said. 

The RDC also thanked Dr. Muyingo, for having a good heart, of supporting his people. "We will endeavor to see that these donations reach the intended people in the communities," she pledged.
