The private emergency relief fund set up by lawyers to assist lawyers who have been affected by the COVID-19 lockdown has paid the sh1.56m bill for Moses Kuguminkiriza.

According to the Emergency Relief Fund for Lawyers' report, the money was paid to Mengo Hospital as part of his medical bill.

The fund chairperson, Assumpta Kemigisha Ssebunya, says Kuguminkiriza's request was special and of utmost urgency.

The fund was started by three lawyers; Francis Gimara, Primah Kwagala, and another lawyer, who contributed sh1.26m.

Ssebunya noted that Kuguminkiriza's spouse submitted a request for the money.

The report says the committee was alerted that the patient was scheduled to attend Mengo Hospital, Mulago Hospital and Kiruddu Hospital for specialised tests and treatment on Monday.

The committee has requested well-wishers to make further donations to raise the sh1.24m balance to clear Kuguminkiriza's bill and avail emergency relief to other eligible beneficiaries.
