Parliament approves Atingi-Ego for BOU deputy governor

 

Atingi-Ego was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni pending the approval of the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

 

In a letter of April 7, by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, to the President, Atingi-Ego was found to be suitable for the job.

 

"Pursuant to Article 161 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Uganda, the Appointments Committee of Parliament has interacted with the above-named person and found him suitable and therefore approved his appointment as Deputy Governor of Bank of Uganda," Kadaga said.

 

Atingi-Ego replaces Dr Louis Kasekende, who left the central bank after his contract expired in January.

 

He started his career at Bank of Uganda before rising through the ranks to become executive director in charge of research.

 

He then left to take up another appointment at the International Monetary Fund, where he served as deputy director of the African Department.

 

Since 2018, Atingi-Ego has been working as the executive director of Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Easter and Southern Africa.
