COVID-19: Sarrai group donates sh300m

Through its company, Kinyara Sugar, the group, has also supported the Masindi district COVID-19 taskforce.

Sarrai group has donated an assortment of items worth sh300m to the COVID-19 National Task Force to help in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The items include 10,000 litres of sanitizers, 20,000kg of sugar, 10,000kg of laundry bar soap and 10,000kg of baking flour. 

‘'We do understand that our nation is going through unprecedented times which require collective effort and responsibility which has to be undertaken with a lot of dynamism and selflessness with a collective goal of fighting the pandemic.'' Sekhar Veedhi a representative of the group said.

Through its company, Kinyara Sugar, the group, has also supported the Masindi district COVID-19 taskforce. 

On April 14, Masindi district received 600 litres of fuel from Kinyara meant to enable movement of the taskforce.

"We have also bought airtime on local radio stations to enable the task force to sensitize people about the pandemic," says Mathias Wanok, the Kinyara Sugar Communications Manager. 

At least 500kgs of posho plus 100kgs of sugar were also given to the district for the isolation centers.

 According to Longino Baheebwa the deputy RDC Masindi also the head of the district task force, distribution will be done on Thursday this week.

"We are grateful for the support received but we ask people to remain vigilant and to keep following the guidelines aimed at preventing coronavirus," Baheebwa said.

As of April 14, Uganda had registered a total of 55 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and no deaths according to the Ministry of Health.

The Sarrai group is the parent company to Nile Plywoods, Engaano millers, Tasco Industries,  Hoima Sugar and Kinyara Sugar among others.
