Security operatives together with the health department in Pakwach district have intensified vigilance and operations at Pakwach bridge checkpoint in a bid to avert any chances of importing the deadly COVID-19 in the region with Pakwach Bridge being the entry point into many westnile districts.

This strategy was revealed by Swaib Toko, the Resident District Commissioner Pakwach who is also the chairperson COVID-19 district taskforce committee.

According to Toko, no one will be allowed to pass into west Nile via Pakwach without being checked using a temperature monitor and isolation centers are set for those suspected to be unwell.

"We don't want to take any chances at the bridge since it is the entry point into west Nile, whoever wants to cross to west Nile must submit him or herself for thorough checkup by our heath team," Toko said.

On the issue of porousness at the border with DR.Congo, Toko emphasised that, much of the security at the border has been tightened following the closure of the border, some few Congolese still continue to sneak into the district using ungazetted routes which potentially could put the lives of many Ugandans in danger but stressed that mitigation measures have been lined up to ensure that life of all the citizens in the district is fully secured.

"I want to appeal to all the residents of Pakwach district to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of people sneaking into the district", said the RDC.

Swaib called upon everyone to be compliant to all the presidential directives issued including closure of all non-food shops and markets as well as curfew hours.

He said it is better to lose in business for two to three weeks than shutting a coffin of the loved for forever.
