Uganda Athletics Federation has closed camps in Kapchorwa following postponement of international events because of Coronavirus.

The federation has closed its World Half Marathon and Africa Cross-country camps in the eastern region town of Kapchorwa.

The world meet was supposed to take place in Poland on March 29, while the Africa event was due for April 6 to 8th in Togo's capital Lome.

"We regret closure of our residential training camps in Kapchorwa for both events. This follows postponement of the two international events. Everyone's health and safety first," read a UAF release.

UAF have promised to issue a more detailed release later.

UAF's move comes just days after a World Athletics statement announcing the world meet's postponement.

"It is with regret that we have agreed with the Mayor of Gdynia and the organisers of the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020 (March 29) to postpone this event until October this year, due to the ongoing uncertainty created by the spread of new Coronavirus internationally," stated the world body.

Just like other sports bodies, several athletics events have been either called off this year or postponed.

These include the Boston and London marathons. The latter will now take place on October 4.

"The world is in an unprecedented situation grappling with a global pandemic of COVID-19 and public health is everyone's priority," said London Marathon event director Hugh Brasher through a statement.

"We know how disappointing this news will be for so many: the runners who have trained for many months, the thousands of charities for which they are raising funds and the millions who watch the race every year."
