Archbishop Kaziimba kick starts TV project, appoints team

KAMPALA - The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has set up a technical team to do the paper that will see the church start its first Television station in Uganda.

"The Archbishop has already identified a technical team that is going to work on paperwork for the establishment of the TV Station and as soon as their assignment is done, we shall approach the government for licensing and further support." Sadiiki Adams, the Provincial communications person told the New Vision, Thursday.

Sadiiki said that the team that comprises of media experts from the Uganda Christian University (UCU) faculty of mass communication and friends of the church from the US.

He said the team's mandate will be to determine the location of the TV station, the content to be aired and the management.

However, he said that Kaziimba will officially unveil the team on March 20, 2020, when he will be installed as the Chancellor of UCU.

Asked what will be the source of funding, Sadiiki disclosed that Christians and friends of the Church of Uganda will fund the project.

"This is a timely project that the Archbishop has instructed that we work on before it is overtaken by events. He wants the TV Station to be established for the good news of Christ, the gospel of the risen Lord to be spread far and wide," he noted.

He made the revelations on the sidelines of an event organized to welcome the Archbishop on his first day at work at the Provincial office.

In his charge, during the enthronement ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral, Namirembe on March 1, Kaziimba noted that there are many television stations in the country but the Church has none for gospel outreach.

"It is time for this to change, and I call upon the Church of Uganda to establish its own television station and I encourage all of us to render a helping hand for this cause," he said.

During the guided tour of the office and the employees, Kaziimba addressed members of the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe, calling for unity and oneness for the ministry to succeed.

"If our ministry is to succeed, we must communicate, participate, collaborate, connect and remain united on the Cross of Jesus Christ," he said.

Quoting Jeremiah 17:9-10, he noted that his Ministry as the Archbishop will mainly focus on the conversion of the head, conversion of the heart and conversion of the hand.

"We need to change our mindset, attitude and our head so that we begin on a clean sheet. Our emotional lives, feelings, and morals must exemplify the glory of the Lord. We should jointly support one another to enhance the mission of Christ in the Church of Uganda," Kaziimba observed.

He emphasized the need for prayer at the work place and preaching the gospel to all kinds of people wherever they are.

"Prayer should be at the centre of whatever we do. We need to extend our ministry to the street children and the prostitutes because even when they are on the streets, it is not their wish to be there. We need to start up programmes that can sustainably transform their lives," he added.

The Provincial Secretary, Rev Canon William Ongeng welcomed the new Archbishop and called upon the staff to render him all the necessary support to enable him to render godly leadership.

He called upon the staff to regularly engage the Archbishop, not only about work but also their personal lives.

"The Archbishop is not only an administrator but he is also a counsellor and a minister. Use him to minister to your lives,"Ongeng said.

Archbishop Kaziimba, who was in the company of his Chaplain, Rev Johnson Kansiime was taken around all offices at the provincial secretariat by the provincial secretary and the provincial communications officer, Sadiiki Adams.

Rev. Alex Bwambale, the acting director for Missions and Outreach, applauded the Archbishop for his very powerful charge which, he said, gives hope for the successful building of a faster-growing, sustainable Christ-Centered Church.
