KAMPALA - City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and some members of the newly constituted Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA) executive body visited Lowenah Nankya and her mother Irene Nakachwa who were hurt by a stray bullet.

The two are hospitalized at Mulago regional hospital after sustaining serious injuries during Tuesday's brutal KCCA/Police operation against street vendors.

Nankya survived after a bullet tore apart her upper lip destroying all the teeth in the upper jaw.

Her mother, who earns a living from vending "Mukene" at Kasenyi landing site, had part of her elbow ripped off by a rubber bullet.

The senior six student at Naalya Senior Secondary School, Lugazi Campus, was caught up in the melee together with her mother at the Old Taxi Park as they headed to the Lugazi-bound taxi stage.

Lukwago and his team offered their support and made arrangements to have the duo transferred to a better facility where they can get specialized treatment at KCCA's expense.

They also made a commitment to ensure that they get justice and KCCA atones for the damages and injuries they suffered.

They have also pledged to push for the prosecution of the commander of the KCCA enforcement team, SSP Kituuma Rusoke and the law enforcement officers who recklessly shot at the people.

The team also committed to expediting the process of enacting into law the Bill for the Law Enforcement Ordinance as well as Street Trade Ordinance, which stalled pending finalization of the transition processes relating to the new KCCA law.

KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju said police are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, Mulindwa associates, on behalf of the family has issued a notice of intention to sue the office of the KCCA executive director and the Inspector General of Police.

They are demanding sh50m for Nankya and sh10m for her mother Nakachwa for medical treatment, pay damages to the two and sh1bn for disability, bullet wounds, trauma and inconveniences during her studies.
