Sande Edward Kizito, a versatile sportsman and former national cricket team player who died on Saturday aged 75, has attracted warm tributes from veteran cricket players.

Kizito was eulogized during the memorial service at St. Paul's Cathedral, Namirembe on Sunday (March 8).

Sam Walusimbi, who spoke on behalf of the cricketers, described Kizito as a versatile sportsman, who played various games with admirable skill.

"He was a fine footballer, javelin thrower and athlete. His deep interest in cricket started at a young age. He was an influential player in the pioneer cricket team of Budo Junior School. He also played the game at King's College Budo, Namilyango College and Makerere University.

"He ably represented the country at regional, continental and international sporting events. He always lavished skill," Walusimbi said.

Eng John Baptist Walusimbi, a senior member of the Nook Club, said Kizito was a charming and social person, who loved, helped and brought joy to many people.

The Vicar of Namirembe Cathedral, the Rev. George William Kyeyune, said Kizito was a committed member of the Anglican faith, who also exhibited admirable love for the Cathedral. He said that for many years, Kizito had volunteered to repair the Cathedral's public address system, free of charge.

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, also paid tribute to Kizito, who he said was a good friend of the royal family of Buganda, and also, a faithful and dutiful supporter of the kingdom. The Kabaka's condolence message was delivered by her sister, Princess Sarah Kagere.
