The ninth archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has today received a heroic welcome at Buikwe, his home district.

Archbishop Kaziimba has been received by the bishop of Mukono, James William Ssebaggala.

He had his first service in his home district, Gulama village in Buikwe district before starting his official ministry as the archbishop.

Kaziimba started the day at the Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited (SCOUL), a sugar-producing company in Lugazi before heading to the International Needs Ministry in Buikwe town. The ministry provides education to needy children and those with special needs.

From there, he headed to Buikwe where he led a church service. He asked the children not to loose hope however poor there backgrounds may be.

He said he came from a polygamous family and went through a very poor school where they used to smear cow dung in the classrooms to prevent the dust.

''I am now out of the village and I am the archbishop despite that background, you too can make it,'' he said.

From the service at Buikwe, Kaziimba and the entire went to Gulama village for another service at his ancestral home.
