FUBA: AWARDING THE BEST BASKETBALLERS OF 2019


A fresh new National Basketball League season tips off later this month and ahead of that start, local basketball governing body FUBA awarded the excelling basketballers of 2019 at a glamorous awards ceremony in Kampala Friday evening.

The best of the best athletes and teams were set to be recognized as the most valuable llayers (MVPs), champions, best managers, top scorers, most improved team, coach of the year, and other categories.

So ahead of an exciting night, guests starting walking in early. Some enjoyed photo opportinunites too.

 

Joseph Ikong appeared delighted to be a part of the night - and so was his company.

 

They knew they couldn't afford to miss out on such a night of achievers.

 

FUBA president Nasser Sserunjongi (right) was in attendance.

 

Former FUBA vice-president and current AUUS president Peninah Kabenge was at the event, and so was current federation vice-president (administration) Hudson Ssegamwenge.

"I am delighted to be a part of such an event. Awarding excellence is giving a challenge to the other people and it is my humble plea to the president and your executive to keep this up," said Kabenge."

 

Nkumba Marines finished third-best in the men's Division 1 and they delightedly received the 2nd runner-up award from FUBA president Sserunjogi.

 


The Nam Blazers were the 1st Runner-up in Men's Division 1.

 


The UPDF Tomahawks were the champions of the Men's Division 1, and what a night for them to show off the fruits of their labour! Fully deserved!

 


On the women's side of the Division 1, the Javon Lady Phenoms were the 2nd Runner-Up.

 



Nabisunsa Girls' Schhol showed just how you can balance books with schools when they finished 2019 as the 1st Runner-up in the Women's Division 1.

 


In the Women's Diivision 1, Magic Stormers reigned supreme, rising above the best to emerge the champions.

 


In the Men's Disivion 2, overall winners Kampala Rockets blasted their way into the stars, way above the rest, to stamp their footprint on the Planet of Champions!

 


With the threat of coronavirus high around the world, the chief guest, State Sports minister Denis Hamson Obua knew far better than to shake  hands when he was being received upon arrival.

 

 


Former FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya showed up wearing a tuxedo.

 

Awarding the best . . .

 
It was a full house . . .

. . . The event was masked in an aura of good vibes.

 

3x3 Basketball Franchise were named Ambassador 2019.

 

 

And the Outstanding Performance of the Year 2019 award went to City Oilers.

 


Mandy Juruni is the coach of the year! He collected his award in the company of his beloved wife.

 

Peninah Kabenge was all smiles as she received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Such a committed sports administrator! Fully deserved!

 

 


Ambrose Tashobya presented the Division 2 Men MVP award to Nibert Byamukama of Entebbe Archers, who warmly received it.

 
The fruits of tireless training paying off.

 

It was a night to receive the fruits of her sporting hardwork.  The MVP Regular Season (Women NBL) award went to Brenda Ekone of Nkumba! Uganda Olympics Committee president William Blick did the honours.

 

 

And the MVP Regular Season (Division 1 Women) award went to Nabisunsa Girls' Becky Keren Longom..

 

Reaping what he sowed. Those hours of training and sweat paid off. National Council of Sports's Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo presented the MVP Regular Season (Division 1 Men) award to Sydney Chasimba of Nkumba Marines.

 


Plenty of attention on the VVIP table . . .

 


New National Council of Sports chairperson Donald Rukare, who was sworn in on Friday, attended the ceremony.

 

A huge smile for a huge achievement! This is what this award means to Division 1 Men top scorer Felix Mukunzi of the UPDF (320 points).

 

 


Another one in the bag for Nkumba Lady Marines' Brenda Ekone, who collects her second award on the night - this one for top scorer in the Women NBL (442 points).

 

 

Guest had a good time.

 


505 POINTS! That's what City Oilers' Landry Ndikumana scored in the National Basketball League last season to earn him the men's top scorer award. Tonny Drileba collected the award on his behalf.

 


Peter Obleng of Entebbe Archers was the best rebounder in the Men's Division 2 (145).

 


At 219 rebounds, Nam Blazers' Emmanuel Makuei has been awarded for emerging last season's best rebounder in the Men's Division 1.

 


Garang Kur of Kampala Rockets gets MVP Playoffs award in the Men's Division 2.

 


City Oilers' James Okello received the MVP Playoffs award for the Men's National Basketball League. Very much deserved.

 


Magic Stormers' Benedit Nyamwenge beat teammates Ajar Kur Aguti & Evelyn Namuli to the Playoffs MVP award in the Women's Division 1.

 

 

Hope Okello of JKL beat teammates Rita Imanishimwe and Flavia Oketcho to the Playoffs MVP award in the Women's NBL.

 


Double delight as UPDF's Felix Mukunzi got another award - Men's Division 1 Playoffs MVP award.
