NSSF Hash run targets sh700m for public schools

The run will start at Pearl of Africa School in Nsambya on March 29. The route traverses the original 7 hills of Kampala namely: Nsambya, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Kibuli, Namirembe, Lubaga, and Lubiri covering a distance of about 21km.
NSSF 7 HILLS HASH RUN
The 5th edition the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Kampala 7 Hills Hash Run will continue channeling its proceeds to KCCA schools and other needy schools from across the country.
Addressing the press and partners during the launch of this year's run due on March 29, at Mbuya Church of Uganda Primary School on Monday, NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba said the targeted amount from the run is sh700m from the different partners and individuals that will participate.
"We are hoping to benefit 5 schools and also put final touches on the other schools we had earlier identified. I call on the public to support and join us in this noble cause," Byarugaba said.
"We have already raised sh100m and we encourage more group participation and individuals to join us upon payment of 25,000/- cash or through mobile money by dialing *217*277#
During the launch Equity Bank (sh25m), ICEA (Sh10m) and Umeme (sh10m) and Galaxy FM presented their cheques with Byarugaba announcing MultiChoice, Kakira Sugar, Saracen, Capital Markets Authority, Pinnacle Security, Nation Media Group, Simba FM, Retirements Regulatory Authority, Stanbic Bank, Cementers, Housing Finance Bank, ICPA, and New Vision as some of the other partners so far on board.

A shorter route of 10km has also been created for those who cannot conquer the 7 hills.
"We a glad that KCCA has been able to utilize the funds and created a real difference in the lives of the children who go to these schools; Their education has improved and the conditions have also improved," Byarugaba noted before asking KCCA to provide proper accountability so that the partners are well versed with where their money goes.
Moses Mwebe (ICEA) and Anthony Kituuka (Equity Bank) pledged more support to the cause saying: "We have been part of all the past editions because as a company we believe in transforming lives for the betterment of generations to come," Mwebe said.
"We believe in dignity and expanding opportunities for wealth creation. We want to ensure the children study in the best environment but also support KCCA in other development initiatives.
"We want to ensure we transform the head, heart and hands, and we believe this initiative will help transform those three things in the children who are the future of this country," Kituuka stated.
Hash Master Moses Sserwanga encouraged the public to join the run in order to transform their bodies saying each of the runners will get a ribbon upon conquering each of the seven hills.
Jimmy Amatre, Manager Education Operations at KCCA said since 2016 when NSSF embarked on this relationship with KCCA several schools like St.Pontiano Kyamula, Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped, Nakivubo Settlement and Makerere University Primary Schools had benefited a lot from the proceeds.
Peter Kauju who spoke on behalf of the Executive Director said KCCA was running 79 public schools and thanked NSSF for partnering and ensuring the future of the country is secure through improvement of the pupils' education and livelihood.
Proceeds from this year's run will go to improving facilities at Munyonyo Primary School, St. Paul Nsambya, Adwari Primary School in Otuke District and Pioneer Primary School in Soroti.
