Kamoga wins inaugural Palm Valley Golf Open

Entebbe Club's golf artisan Brian Kamoga carded a closing round three-under-par 69 to win the inaugural edition of the Palm Valley Open played the Palm Valley Golf and Country Club located at Kakungulu Estate on Friday.

He is now aiming at winning even bigger things after he topped the gross category competition played over 36 holes, at the nine-hole course.

He carded 147 gross over the two rounds to beat Jinja's Grace Kasango and Tooro Club's Joseph Cwinya-ai who tied for second, to the championship by two strokes.

"It wasn't an easy ride but I have been practicing a lot lately and I think it has finally paid off," Kamoga who hit 8 birdies over the two rounds said.

"I had a chance to practice on the course with local pro Abraham Ainamani before the tournament and he showed me around and advised me on what to do and what club to use, where, so that also helped a lot," Kamoga who is eyeing this year's Uganda Open said.

Golfer of the year 2019, Cwinya-ai had taken a five stroke lead after the first round in which he hit 7 birdies and an eagle in the first round on Thursday but fumbled in the second round carding a nine-over 81 in the last round, to miss out on adding to his earlier victories from the Venus and Kitante Opens.

Entebbe's Christopher Baguma finished fourth with 150 gross while Mehta Golf Club's Godfrey Nsubuga finished 5th a stroke more in the Stanbic Bank, Pepsi, Case Hospital and Sky Beach Hotel sponsored tournament.

In the subsidiary competition John Basabose (37pts) and Catherine Pavie topped the men and ladies Group A respectively while James Eyul (35pts) and Mark Nahabwe (40pts) were the best in the men's Groups B and C. Sharon Kawanyi (33pts) and Dorothy Nabirye (30pts) from Jinja were the other podium finishers in the ladies Group B.
