Uganda's professional golfer Phillip Kasozi has his work cut out as he competes in the last leg of the 2019/2020 Safari Golf Tour Series at the Karen Country Club, February, 22-26.

Apart from fighting for a share of the sh108m prize money that will see the winner of the event banking sh16m, Kasozi is also fighting for a slot to qualify to play in the lucrative Magical Kenya Open.

Going into the Karen event that tees off on Sunday, Kasozi is 1.5 points away from qualification having lost ground in the Kitante Open a week ago.

Zimbabwe's Robson Chinhoi who finished third ahead of Kasozi at Kitante leads the standings on 214 points with Kitante Open winner Nigeria's Andrew Oche who displaced Kasozi now in second on 210 points, among the non-Kenyan nationals fighting for the two slots.

hinhoi is top of the standings for the noenyan nationals Chinhoi is top of the standings for the non-Kenyan nationals.

At Karen, Kasozi must play better than the Nigerian to stand a chance of gaining direct entry into the Kenya Open.

"I'm going to qualify because the last two courses Kitante and Karen are my best courses in East Africa," Kasozi who hasn't made the cut the two previous times he has played in Kenya vowed after the Kitante event.

Whereas Kasozi is the sole Ugandan chasing qualification for the Kenya Open he is not alone in the chess for the cash as other Ugandans; Deo Akope, Ronald Rugumayo, Becca Mwanja, Dennis Anguyo, Brian Toolit, Willy Kitata, and Abbey Bagalana have stormed Nairobi to try and make some cash from the last event of the Safari Tour whose cash has been tripled.

Commenting on the prize fund boost, Kenya Open Tournament Director, Patrick Obath, said the move will give players greater motivation to compete for the final qualification slots for the forthcoming Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa Golf Championship which will be played next month.

"We expect the level of competition to go up a notch higher with the prize fund increase and look forward to a grand finish to the tournament at the Karen. Our desire is to see many low scores at this event as we near this year's Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa Golf Championship," he said.
