KAMPALA - Rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka took part in the Run 4 Climate Road Race last weekend as one of the ways to get him prepped up for this weekend's Mbarara Rally.

Lwakataka, nicknamed 'Mafu Mafu', said that being a rally driver, he participated in the run to test his physical and mental fitness.

Runners started the five-and-a-half kilometre from the Makerere University rugby pitch (graveyard) and raced through Wandegeya.

Makerere University student of development studies Emmanuel Otim won the race with a time of 16:05 minutes.

Meanwhile, rally drivers are gearing up for the Mbarara Rally, which will kick off on Friday and end on Sunday.

Lwakwataka will be among them.

At the run, he expressed the need to protect the environment.

"At my age of over 50 years, I have shown the youth that fitness is paramount," said Lwakataka.
