African leaders mourn Daniel Moi

DEATH
Four-time presidential candidate and opposition figure Kizza Besigye has credited the longest-serving president of Kenya Daniel Moi for leading the peaceful transition of power in Kenya.
"His main legacy is affording Kenya a peaceful transition to another leader," Besigye tweeted.
Moi passed on Tuesday morning in a Nairobi hospital.
Besigye also described Moi as a humble, submissive demeanour who emerged to become a skillful statesman.

Former FDC president now Alliance for National transformation leader Mugisha Muntu has also extended his heartfelt condolences to the Kenyan Community.

Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli is among other African presidents who are mourning Moi. He tweeted his condolence message at 9:00 am after the news of his passing.

Raila Odinga the African Union High Representative For infrastructure Development who was a teenager when Moi was President has pieced down a statement remembering his struggles.
These included unifying the country, challenges towards a single-party system among others.
"He strived to hold the country together as he struggled to unite the people, often with mixed results," Odinga wrote.

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has recollected the circumstances that led to his first encounter with Moi. " I first met Mzee Moi in 1979 after the defeat of Amin," Museveni tweeted.
