Uganda Cup draw: Kajjansi Utd out to upset Villa

KAMPALA - Can Kajjansi United subject SC Villa to the same sharp sword they subjected Vipers SC to in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64?

Only time will tell.

The Kajjansi-based side found themselves pitted against yet another top-flight side in the round of 32 draw conducted on Monday.

Under the stewardship of Moses Bukenya, Kajjansi shocked Vipers with an 8-7 penalty shootout win at Wankulukuku Stadium last month after the two sides saw out the regular time tied on 1-1.

The defeat cost Venoms head coach Edward Golola his job less than 24 hours after the upset. Fred Kajoba would be the next man to walk through the revolving door of St. Mary's Stadium to take up the hot seat.

After it emerged that Villa were Kajjansi's next opponents, head coach Bukenya rubbed his hands in anticipation and vowed to subject the Jogoos to the same fate their Premier League rivals Vipers faced not long ago.

"As a coach, I always dream of playing against big sides. Now that I have Villa on my menu, it is a great opportunity for me to prove my worth as a coach and also my boys.

"We have to prove to the fans that our famous elimination of Vipers was not by chance," Bukenya exuded confidence as he anticipated the clash.

But to beat Villa, Bukenya and co will have to employ a lot of resources against a side that has picked form in the last three games, where they have bagged two wins against Vipers at home and Express in the league.

"We are under no pressure facing Villa. The boys are mentally ready and all we are waiting for is match day," said Bukenya.

Villa knocked out Super Eagles 4-1 to get to the round of 32.

Meanwhile, the other duel that promises to be mouthwatering in the round of 32 will be embattled Express FC hosting Douglas Bamweyana's Maroons. Can Bamweyana outsmart his former employers?

Current holders Proline, who are struggling in the league, will hope for elusive fortunes when they face off against tricky side Admin, an eastern regional side that knocked out Police at the round of 64.

Joint-record holders KCCA (10 cups) will lock horns with Bukedea Town Council.

There was no seeding at this round, and so teams from the premier league can face each other. The winner of the competition will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, round of 32 teams that will fail to honour fixtures will be docked points in their respective league. A team that will accumulate four yellow cards or more will be fines sh100,000.

"Teams are supposed to honour these matches. Failure to do so will see them docked points in their respective leagues," said FUFA's competitions director, Hajjat Aisha Nalule.

"We call for fair play and if it happens that players of any team pick four yellow cards or more, they will be fined," she added.

Sonia Karamaji, the head of communications at Stanbic Bank, the competition's main sponsor, said they are excited by the progress registered so far.

"On behalf of Stanbic Bank, we are very pleased with the success the competition is registering since we came on board," he said.

The games will be played from February 11 to February 16, with the exact date of each match to be communicated.

Also on Monday, the draws of the FUFA Women Cup conducted.

Defending champions Makerere University were drawn with Amuria High School.

A mouthwatering clash will also be witnessed when last season's runners up Lady Doves lock horns with St Noah Girls.

Action in the women's competition will be played around February 22-23.
