Uganda opened her 2020 FIFA U-20 Women World Cup Qualifying campaign on a wrong note after they lost 2-1 away to Tanzania at the National Stadium in Dar-es-salaam on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, Uganda got on the score sheet through Kawempe Muslim forward Juliet Nalukenge in the 47th minute.
But Tanzania's Diana Msewa leveled matters for the hosts three minutes later before Clement Opa scored the second for Tanzania in the 78th minute to give them the win ahead of the return leg slated for February 1 at Lugogo.
Coach Oliver Mbekeka's side will now reorganize to ensure they pay-back in the return leg scheduled for February 1. Uganda will need a 1-0 win in the return leg in order to progress to the next round where they will meet either Senegal or Sierra Leone.
This is the second time Uganda is taking part in the FIFA U20 Women World Cup qualifiers. The first appearance in the qualifiers was in 2013 with a tremendous 22-0 aggregate win over South Sudan.
