Police arrests four over raiding catholic children's home

Four people alleged to have raided the Catholic children's home in Nkozi sub-county, Mpigi district have been arrested, police in the area have confirmed. Police were on Thursday forced to fire live bullets in the air while apprehending the suspects who were trying to run away from being a rested.

Four people alleged to have raided the Catholic children's home in Nkozi sub-county, Mpigi district have been arrested, police in the area have confirmed.


Police were on Thursday forced to fire live bullets in the air while apprehending the suspects who were trying to run away from being a rested.

According to the police publicist for Katonga region Joseph Turya, the suspects were arrested from areas of Nabyewanga trading center, Lubanda village all found in Nkozi sub-county.

He declined to reveal the identities of the suspects saying that it might jeopardize police investigations since they are still hunting for the remaining suspects who are still on the run.

It is alleged that some Unknown thugs raided St Martin's Poules Kankobe children's home under Kankobe Catholic parish operated by the Catholic nuns and stabbed the gateman Stanley Abit with pangas before they moved in to assault nuns and other employees in the home demanding for money.

According to Sister Constancia Namutebi, the deputy superior general at the Coventry, the attackers raided the home at around 2 am, on Wednesday when they were sleeping.

She added that she was woken up by the loud alarm made by the gates man whom the attackers were stabbing with pangas.

" I was in deep sleep and I heard someone making a loud alarm that people are killing him, I immediately woke up and sent a message to our chairman that we had been attacked by thugs" Sister Constancia Namutebi narrated.

She added that immediately the suspects descended to their bedroom doors, broke in their rooms demanding money, and direction to the bursar's office.

Sister Josephine Lwandago, who also serves as a nurse at the home said the attackers dragged them down armed with pangas and threatened to end their lives if they did not cooperate well.

St Martin's Poules Kankobe Catholic children's home is home to at least 60 vulnerable children, Catholic nuns and other employees of the home.

The attackers took 5 laptops, 9 mobile phones, an iPad, money of unknown amount and vehicle registration number UBC 866B Toyota Noah which they used to escape after the raid.

The gates man who was stabbed by the thugs is currently admitted at Nkozi hospital where he is undergoing treatment, after sustaining wounds and injuries from suspects who attacked them last week.
