Man shot dead at MP's home

A burglar was shot dead at MP Julius Acon's home in Otuke, Lira Municipality.

Hitmen attack Masaka

Panga-wielding hitmen attacked residents of Kakoma village in Kyotera district, killing and injuring many people.

Man kills daughter

A man killed his daughter for going for a New Year disco. The 14-year-old was beaten to death by her father, identified as Ahmed Wesonga, of Malongo sub-county in Mayuge district.

A scrap dealer was banished for theft of hospital rails at Moyo General Hospital. Robert Wonguale was ordered to close his shop and leave the town.

Businessman jailed for fraud

Kasule Mohammad Leon, a businessman, was jailed for defrauding America gold buyer of $600m and sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Ouma charged

The director of Equitax Uganda Limited, Robert Ouma Ejiet, was charged with obtaining money amounting to sh129m by false pretense.

Couple robbed

Taxi goons robbed a couple — Mudasiru Mboowa and wife Mariam Nansubuga of sh5m. They abandoned the vehicle. The taxi number UBE 245N was heading to Kampala from Jinja.

Firms suspended

Over 108 firms have been suspended from participating in public procurement proceedings over allegedly forging documents and failing to honour contractual obligation of the PPDA.

MTN supervisor stabbed

Thugs stabbed Julius Shuwu, 34, an MTN supervisor for Simcard registration at Kyebando, a Kampala suburb.

A UPDF soldier sneaked out of Mbuya Barracks with a gun under the influence of alcohol and shot Ruth Namoima dead at Gaetano Bar in Nakawa division.

Children murdered in revenge

Five children were murdered in a suspected, revenge attack in Bufunjo village, Kyenjojo district by unknown assailants.

Wakuna jailed

The army court-martial sentenced Imran Wakuna, a bodaboda cyclist, to 40 years in prison for killing two people, including a private guard in a shoot-out during a robbery in Masaka .

Officials charged with fraud

Mbarara officials were charged with fraud. Edward Lwanga, Richard Kerere, were charged with falsely accounting for sh66.9m meant for road works.

Police officer charged over Ssebulime murder

Mukono Grade One Magistrate Mariam Nalugya charged Police officer David Ssali with murder of Ronald Ssebulime, who was shot for allegedly trailing minister Ida Nantaba's car.

American kidnapped

American tourist Kimberly Sue, and her tour guide, Jean-Paul Mirenge were abducted by four gunmen in Queen Elizabeth.

Policemen arrested

Two Policemen were arrested in connection with bodaboda killings. The two policemen were identified as Yassin Lusiba, a Special Police Constable and Ahmed Sserwadda, a Police Constable, all attached to Katwe Police Station.

Brother Mugarura killed

Brother Emmanuel Nobert Mugarura, the Superior General of Brothers of St. Charles Lwanga (Bannakarooli Brothers) was killed.

He was found dead in a hostel room that belongs to Robert Asiimwe, a key suspect in the murder.
Asiimwe told Police that he killed Mugarura because the brother was sexually harassing him.

Sexual abuse

Police investigations revealed Mugarura, regularly sexually abused Robert Asiimwe, the young man accused of murdering him. The Police's findings indicate that Mugarura, who sponsored Asiimwe, an orphan, to go through secondary school, would regularly sexually abuse the young man. The investigators also established that Mugarura sexually abused other boys from separate Brother-instructed schools, who he reportedly lured to hotels around Masaka and monasteries, including Rubaga.

Businessman shot dead

On July 9, Arnold Ainebyona Mugisha, 26, a businessman, died after being shot by Moses Ongoria, a security guard attached to Saracen Uganda Limited, a private security firm, after a quarrel at Quality Shopping Mall in Naalya, Kampala. July 10: Private security firms came under fire over inadequate training of the guards. July 12: Police retrieved closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from Quality Shopping Mall to ascertain how businessman Arnold Ainebyona Mugisha was killed.

Ziggy Wine killed

A Firebase Crew member, Michael Alinda aka Ziggy Wine, was found dumped at Mulago Hospital with his eye plucked out and two fingers cut off. His death and what could have happened in his last days deepened the mystery surrounding his death.

Police gave a detailed account, contradicting the assertion by the family of Ziggy Wine that he was abducted and tortured, before being dumped at Mulago Hospital.

New Vision apologised to the public for an earlier story, where it was reported that Ziggy Wine was kidnapped and found dumped at Mulago Hospital with his eyes plucked out and two fingers cut off.

Nagirinya, Kitayimbwa killed

The missing social worker, Maria Nagirinya Gateni and her driver, Ronald Kitayimbwa, who were kidnapped on the night of August 28, at Lungujja-Busega in Kampala, were found dead and their bodies dumped in Nakitutulu village, Nama division in Mukono district.

Fresh details on the brutal murder of Maria Nagirinya Gateni and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa indicated she had been trailed by men who used a bodaboda. A man who was caught on CCTV footage driving Nagirinya on the night of kidnap at around 3:05am along Kinawataka road had been seen at the deceased's gate three times.

Nagirinya murder suspects arrested

Five suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of Maria Nagirinya

At least 15 Police officers were under arrest as the Professional Standards Unit (PSU) of the Police investigated the officers' failure to respond to the distress call relating to the kidnap and murder. The Police sought help from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in probing the kidnap and murder.

The Police released CCTV footage which showed a man behind the steering wheel in Nagirinya's car after she was kidnapped with Kitayimbwa.

Ayebare arrested for murder of Nagirinya

Fortune Ayebare Mugisha was arrested and detained by the army's Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) over alleged links to the killers.

A key suspect in the murder of Nagirinya called the Police, notifying detectives that the female suspect arrested over the killing was innocent.

According to the security operatives, one of the suspects in custody — who allegedly confessed to the crime — claimed that the gang was paid sh1.5m to execute the murder and that his share was only sh130,000.

Nagirinya murder suspects sent to Luzira

Four men implicated in the murder were charged and remanded to Luzira Prisons.

Coporiyamu Kasolo, alias Arsenal, Johnson Lubega, alias Etoo Rasta Manomano, Nasif Kalyango alias Muwonge and Hassan Kisekka alias Masadda appeared before Nateete Magistrates' Court in Mengo, Kampala.

Nagirinya murder suspect arrested

On September 30: The Police arrested what they described as the mastermind in the double kidnap and murder. The unnamed suspect, according to the Police, was the chief plotter of the heinous deal, together with another suspect, who had already been charged in court.

Foreign social workers attacked

Armed men attacked foreign social workers at Rubaga municipality; the victims were females from Netherlands.

Byekwaso charged with corruption

Halima Byekwaso, the manager of an illegal labour recruitment firm, was charged over allegations of fleecing people for large sums of money for jobs abroad.

Missing Kalumba found dead

On September 2, James Kalumba, a former employee of Motorcare Nissan Uganda, who went missing at the beginning of August, was discovered dead in a swamp near his home in Kajjansi, Wakiso district.

Expressway murder

On September 5:

Merina Tumukunde Kamukazi, wife of businessman Mark Rugenza, was shot dead together with her friend, Joshua Rushegyera Nteireho, as they headed towards Entebbe at Nambigirwa Bridge in Kajjansi town council along the newly constructed Entebbe-Kampala Expressway. Police held four in custody, including three Police officers, all attached to the police's Counter-Terrorism directorate.

Murder suspects sent to Luzira

On October 18, three other men implicated in the kidnap and murder of Merina and her friend were remanded to Luzira Prison. Sadat Kateregga aka Baros, 27, Sharif Mpanga, 24, and Raymond Macos Okori, 27, were produced before Nateete Grade One Magistrate Esther Nyadoi, who read out the charges to them.

Police officers charged

The Police disciplinary standby court charged eight Police officers, including three Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), with neglect of duty.

Students arrested over murder

October 7: Two university students, Jackline Ahumura and Joan Nshabaruhanga, of Nkumba University were arrested by Police over murder.

Kahuma found dead

Ahmed Kahuma, a prominent businessman dealing in land and gold was found strangled in a ‘horrific attack' at his home in Bunga, a city suburb.

Student murdered

Janat Agayo, 23, a student of Kyambogo University, was murdered, and abandoned her body in a locked house.

Suspects killed by mob

Two brothers suspected to be thieves were killed by a mob at Namirembe village in Kayunga district.

Drugs thief suspect arrested

The most wanted suspect in the theft of government drugs identified as Peter Mugisha, aka Herbert Mundere, was arrested.

Sentoogo's body flown back to Uganda

The body of Sharif Sentoogo, a Ugandan who was hit during a bar brawl in Turkey that led to his death, was flown back to Uganda for burial.

Sentoogo's, body was found with missing body organs following a postmortem at Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary. His brain, heart, liver, and kidneys were missing.

Assailants terrorise Nakasongola

December 8: Tension continued to mount in Nakasongola district after unidentified assailants, who decapitated four residents, struck again, killing two more victims, Fred Mujuni and Fred Bulega, both residents of Wabigalo.

Policemen stripped of ranks

Two Police officers, corporals Samuel Owana, a signaller at Katwe Division Police and Lauben Kibikwamu, who were in charge of Old Kampala Police, were stripped of their ranks by the Police disciplinary standby court, over professional misconduct.
