“With the growing global changes, the foreign aid coming to African countries has reduced, Africans should re-think of how to address their problems"

Ugandans have been advised not to depend on donors for project management but instead create other sources to sustain their projects.

While commissioning of a water pump donated to improve on the safe water coverage in  Kakiri Wakiso district recently, Sarah Kalungi,  the head of Fundraising SOS Children's Village, said Ugandans should be creative and desist depending on donor aid to care for their needs.

"With the growing global changes, the foreign aid coming to African countries has reduced, Africans should re-think of how to address their problems saying the issue of child development must be addressed to cater for the children without care,"Kalungi explained  Kalungi said the young people in Uganda form 78% of the population with many of them forced into early sex which leads them into early marriages without unstable sources of income hence major causes of street children on roads.

"As a country, we cannot continue waiting for donor that is why we look for local organizations and well-wishers to support our activities,"She said. Over 60, 000 children have been supported by the SOS center in Gulu, Fort- Portal, Entebbe, and Kakiri and they have already lived a better life.

"We support 29,000 children are being supported by 800 families and train them on how to manage to improve their family incomes including nutrition. This helps us to reduce child neglect, "Kalungi said.

Sarah Nanseera a caretaker of the children said without water in a home, nothing can be done, noting that today they have stable water that cover the entire village including the Health Centre used by the community. She applauded the Davis Sheriffs who donated a water pump that supplies water to the entire area of 13 families with children.

Joan Nakkomo Sales Engineer Davis and Sheriffs said they offered support because one of their cardinal roles is to increase people's access to clean water.
