The Kagadi Grade One Magistrates' Court has remanded a 24-yr-old woman to Mambugu Government Prison on charges of poisoning her six-month-old son over the alleged failure by her husband to buy her new clothes for Christmas.

Court presided over by the Kibaale Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Niyokwizera, heard that on December 7, Angela Kusemererwa a resident of Kyangamwoyo village, Kitema Parish in Kyenzige sub-county, Kagadi district allegedly used rat poison from her husband's shop to poison the baby.

The baby died at Kagadi Hospital after suffering a running stomach and vomiting.

She accused her husband Nuur Lumansi of failing to buy her a gomesi for Christmas and other clothes, saying he cares about his second wife more than her and that he had already bought her new clothes for the festive season.

The prosecution told the court on Friday that Kusemererwa reportedly sent a neighbour's young boy with sh1000 to go and buy her a sachet of rat poison from her husband's shop and promised to reward him with money and juice for running the errand.

Niyokwizera did not allow the accused to take a plea on the grounds that the offence was capital in nature and only triable by the High Court.

Kusemererwa was remanded to Mambugu until January next year awaiting committal to Masindi High Court.
