USA Ambassador calls for more gender balance

Government has a bigger role to play in the fight of gender violence which has left a number of people suffering in our communities yet we all have the same roles to play, said Deborah Ruth Malac Ambassador of the United States of America (USA).

"On many accession where they have invited me regarding gender, I have observed more is still required to achieve regarding gender equality in our society. But figures show an increase of violence of girls and women taking place, "Said Malac.

Malac revealed this during the closing of Uganda's Ambassador for women and girl gender sports tournament Munyonyo Primary school, Kampala on Saturday.

 

Malac said all the people at different age groups need to practice the fight against by showing equality for both men and women. She said as Uganda continues the celebrate the 16 days of activism, she proposed the fight continues even if when the days are over. 

Last month she launched the US government's campaign in Uganda to support the 16 Days activists against gender-based violence. The campaign is to improve children's reading culture skills in 3,450 primary schools in 43 districts of Uganda.  

The U.S. Mission also provided a bus with a handout for the community containing violence reporting and 116 Uganda Child Help Line (UCHL).
