Bugiri bans driving of govt vehicles at night

The Resident District Commissioner Bugiri, Martin Mugabi said this follows increasing cases of abuse of government vehicles by drivers and district employees.

BUGIRI- Authorities in Bugiri district have banned the use of government vehicles beyond 7:00 p.m.

The Resident District Commissioner Bugiri, Martin Mugabi said this follows increasing cases of abuse of government vehicles by drivers and district employees.

Mugabi said on most occasions government vehicles are always seen parked at bars and pork joints during late-night hours which contravene the standing orders on the handling of public assets.

"Government vehicles should be strictly for doing official work and thereafter one can move in his or her personal vehicle for purposes of leisure, "he said

He said all drivers and government employees have been instructed to always park vehicles at the police station before 7:00 pm to avoid being arrested.

"I have instructed the district police commander to make sure that he arrests any vehicle found beyond 7:00 pm starting from today, " he said

Mugabi said the ban will also help reduce accidents that normally occur as a result of drink driving.

The chief administrative officer Bugiri, Ezaruku Kazimiro said strict disciplinary action will be taken against any employee who would be found guilty of abusing government vehicles.

Kazimiro said on several occasions government vehicles get involved in accidents especially during late-night hours as a result of reckless drivers under the influence of alcohol.

The LC5 chairman Bugiri, Hajji Marijani Azalwa said the district is to soon pass tough by-laws to punish employees who report for duty dressed in a shabby manner.
