The Police has said it has taken one of its officers into custody after a man was shot dead during a Tuesday morning protest. He has been identified as ASP Justus Bwiire, the officer in charge of Kironde Police Post.

David Kibuuka a village information officer was killed at around 10:00 am when the Police fired live bullets in an attempt to disperse the protestors who had gathered at the premises of Shreeji Stationers 2009 in Kabowa.

Kibuuka was rushed to Mulago Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. His body was taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem.

The residents claimed that the owners had closed a road to build the facility as well as dumping soil in the drainage channels which led to the flooding of their homes during the rainy season.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said in a statement that Kampala Metropolitan Police South is investigating the case as a murder.

"It is alleged that our officer ASP Bwiire Justus started shooting bullets to disperse the crowd and injured David Kibuuka. Bwiire is in custody at Old Kampala Police Station as investigations go on into the murder," Owoyesigyire said.
