KAMPALA - Since its establishment, the Department of Performing Arts and Film of the prestigious Makerere University has produced several alumni, who have ably used their trade to contribute to the development of the country, the region and the international community.

But of course, during its existence, the department has also picked up a number of challenges that need to be fixed, to enable it to function properly.  It is because of this reason that Dr. Benon Kigozi, a senior staff member of the department, mooted the idea of starting a fundraising campaign, to generate money to re-develop the department.

The department's resource mobilization campaign was launched with a fundraising dinner at Sheraton Hotel, recently. The well-organised function attracted a good number of the department's alumni, staff members, and well-wishers.

The function's magnitude was also boosted by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, who demonstrated his support by donating sh3.5m towards the project.

The function was also spiced with electrifying musical and dance performances from the students and alumni.
