Rider killed in 10-car pileup

Eight others were hospitalised following the accident on Ntinda-Kiwatule Road that occurred when a truck failed to brake

One person was killed and eight others hospitalised following a Thursday morning accident on Ntinda-Kiwatule Road that occurred when a truck carrying stone aggregates failed to brake and rammed into several cars.

The deceased has been identified as Matovu William, 32, a rider who succumbed to injuries sustained from the accident at Kampala Independent Hospital.

The Sinotruk registration number UAX 495M was heading towards Ntinda when its brakes failed and ploughed into cars and paralysed traffic on the busy road.

Two motorcycles were also damaged in the accident.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, eight people were confirmed to have sustained injuries in the accident.

Owoyesigyire also disclosed that the driver of the truck that is believed to have caused the accident is currently on the run.

Investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.

The Police has listed the following cars as having been damaged in the accident: UBB 659N, UAK 716R, UAX 469C, UAW 188E, UBA O88X, UAV O12Y, UAP 700X, UAZ 388J, and UAZ 203C.

The motorcycles are UGC 198S and UEN 075F.
