Mwiri League Season 2 Launched

Oct 30, 2019

It has fast escalated to become the most fancied alumni league in the country just after eight months of its initiation.

The Mwiri League has defied the theories and narratives of beautiful events that have a good first year and fail to follow through on their initial successes.

It has fast escalated to become the most fancied alumni league in the country just after eight months of its initiation. And this has led the alumni to launch a second season, which they say will be longer and more interesting.

During the launch of The Mwiri League season two on Friday 25th, 2019 in an auspicious event, the different cohort representatives discussed the league plan ahead of season II. Raffle draws for the cricket league dubbed ‘Wembley Cricket Season Two' were also held ón Live TV.

From the energy exhibited during the launch, it is easy to predict that Season II of the Mwiri League is bound to be massive and it will run for 11 Match Days, seven of which will be for soccer and four for cricket; both played interchangeably in no particular format. At least two Match Days will be enjoyed each month with all the soccer match days held at Namboole Stadium while those of Wembley Cricket held at either Kyambogo or Lugogo Cricket Ovals.

Twenty teams have so far confirmed their participation two of which are new entrants; the magical Ruga Ruga of 1988 which becomes the oldest Cohort and the amazing Shadow FC of 2009 which becomes the youngest team.

Different teams possess different ambitions this season but a wonderfully crafted ML Shield awaits the Champion. However, it will be a complete utopia for anyone to predict the next champion; whether Lukambwe FC defends its title or the former runners up Top Layer FC finally claims it remains a debate for time or the formidable Salvo FC which surprised everyone in the first season.

As it was with season one, according to the chairman of the league, every Loss or draw will fetch fines which will be used to establish Training Cricket Nets in Busoga College Mwiri.

The Mwiri League will also host different schools such as Budo, Smack, Ntare, Bweranyangi girls, JICO among others on respective matchdays. It will be another sensational tussle for Renewed Rivalries and drinking partnerships when the league kicks off this Saturday.

Mwiri League Season Two kicks off this Saturday at Namboole Stadium from 10.00 am till late.

The final matchday of Wembley Cricket Season one will be held on 16th Nov at Kyambogo Cricket Oval.

And true to form, after the launch, a beer party hit the sky as usual but it wasn't easy on everyone as it left some Makaya chaps dosing and falling in cups.

The League can be followed on twitter and facebook with the hashtag #MwiriLeagueSeason2
