AMURU - The American embassy in Uganda has launched an academic entrepreneurial programme.

The programme worth $28,000 about sh1bn was launched in Omoro district at Lalogi Sub County by the cultural affairs officer at the USA embassy Carly Van Orman.

Orman was representing the American Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac who was caught up in Kampala.

Orman said the project was the first of its kind in Africa and was meant to help disadvantaged mothers in the ravaged northern Uganda particularly in the Acholi sub-region.

It's without doubt that sub-region endured the reign of terror from the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) that lasted over 23 years.

Being a single mother, Orman said she clearly understands the problems that underage girls who are subjected to early pregnancy and disadvantaged mothers go through.

Santa Joyce Laker the chairperson of the Attiak sugar works out-growers, was grateful for the three months training program adding that it will be supported in conjunction with the Attiak sugar works company in Amuru district.

Laker introduced part of the beneficiaries comprising women groups drawn from the districts of Gulu, Kitgum, Pader, Agago, Lamwo, and Omoro

She said each woman group was supported with Information Communications Technology (ICT) accessories that include a set of Computers and a printing machine to establish and strengthen their district offices in the coordination of the project.

Amina Hersi Moghe, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Attiak sugar pledged to work together with the American Embassy to support women entrepreneurial projects.

Omoro woman MP, Catherine Lamwaka accompanied by the Amuru woman MP, Lucy Akello hailed to the US government through its embassy in Uganda for the support rendered to vulnerable women in Acholi sub-region
