Finally, Wananchi have unlocked the mystery of defeating league leaders Weatherhead after a comprehensive 2-0 win Sunday at the National Hockey Stadium in Lugogo.

It is indeed frustrating for Weatherhead who believed they were standing on the brink of greatness as they pursued to win this year's Ugandabaati League unbeaten.

However, the prospects have changed and surely their aura of invincibility is now undermined with the season getting closer to the business end.

It had to be the brilliance of Thomas Opio and Emmanuel Baguma who scored one goal apiece to sink Vincent Kasasa and Co. in the first round, the two sides shared spoils in a 2-2 affair, Weatherhead then won 2-1 in the second round before the 2-0 wananchi on Sunday in the third round.

Wananchi, the oldest and most successful club in Uganda has just got themselves back in contention for the title.

Second on the standings, they now trail Weatherhead nine points but with three games in hand which means they can level points if they win them.

The fixture creates the biggest rivalry in the domestic league and very often it carries some ugly side. On Sunday, a total of five players were given matching for game violence.

Moses Tushabe, Ashiraf Tumwesigye, and Timothy Ntumba all from Weatherhead and William Oketcha and Innocent Mbababali from Wananchi were victims.

With Weatherhead, the 2017 champions confident of soldiering on, Wananchi have found new motivation to defend the title.
