Over 4,000 pass business, technical exams

KAMPALA - A total of 4,023 students have passed the business and technical exams for May/June 2019, making them eligible for employment.

The results released by the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) on Thursday show a 71% completion rate.

Students sat for exams in five categories including: technical diploma, physical and biological diplomas, physical and biological certificate, business diploma and business certificate.

Out of 5,656 candidates who sat for the exams, 1,634 candidates (29%) fell short on the competencies but will be allowed to re-sit the modules.

Males performed better than females in technical, physical and biological sciences while females performed better in business diploma and business certificate programmes.

A total of 72 candidates from 12 examination centres were involved in malpractices and await a final verdict which may involve cancellation of their exams.

Onesmus Oyesigye, the UBTEB executive secretary said the technical examinations body was adopting more deterrent measures to curb malpractice.

The state minister for higher education, John C Muyingo encouraged principals of all vocational training institutions to ensure that students under their care have the right skills for the market.
