Oct 05, 2019

He opened with one-over 72 that he followed with level par 71 before sealing it with another one-over 72

Richard Baguma returned a closing round one-over-par72 for a total of 215 gross over the three rounds to win this year's JBG Golf Open at Entebbe Club on Friday.

Baguma reaped for his consistency over the 54 holes as he matched to his first overall professional victory, claiming the biggest share of sh20m prize money.

He opened with one-over 72 that he followed with level par 71 before sealing it with another one-over 72 to beat his nearest challenger Deo Akope by two strokes.

Akope, who has been off-form for some time should have clinched it but for his opening four-over 75 that it, in the end, he had to regret.

Out of the top ten after the first round, Akope sneaked in the second at position six after his level-71 before he replicated the same score in the closing round to finish second.

Defending champion Phillip Kasozi who was also not anywhere in the top ten after the opening two rounds, returned two-under 69 in the last round, the best in the round to finish third, four strokes off the winner.

Silver Opio who was the most consistent in the opening two rounds had a nightmarish closing round of 82 but managed to tie in third place with Kasozi, Ronald Rugumayo and Abraham Ainemani on 219 gross each.

The professionals now turn their attention to the Pepsi Independence day tourney at the Palm Valley Golf and Country Club course where another sh30m awaits them, in another 54 holes action starting on Sunday.
