Independence golf tees-off Sunday

The professional golfers will this time battle for a cash prize of sh30m.

The ninth edition of the Pepsi Independence Golf Tournament tees-off on Sunday and its proceeds will go to the purchase of a cancer detecting machine.

Crown Beverages Corporate communications Manager, Tracy Kakuru disclosed this at the launch of the event in Kampala with the theme being "Tee off against Breast Cancer."

The event co-sponsored by ICEA Insurance, Pepsi, Clarkson Insurance, Stanbic Bank and Mukwano Industries starts on Sunday with professional golfers and ends on Wednesday with the amateurs.

"Our 2019 theme for this golf tournament is Tee off against breast Cancer whose chief purpose is to procure a Cancer machine that will aid in early detection of all types of cancer  to enable diagnosing the disease at an early stage," Kakuru noted.
 
David Sekitoleko, a Business Development Consultant at Sheraton Hotel Kampala added that the tournament will attract only 35 professional golfers and 135 amateurs on the Independence Day.

Clarkson Insurance supported the tournament with sh15m , ICEA offered to insure the cancer machine. Other sponsors are Stanbic Bank, fireworks Advertising, brainchild BCW, Mukwano Group, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, RI Distributors, and Uganda Breweries Limited.
