Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile a sacred cow

Oct 02, 2019

Prof. Mutebile has been in charge of the granary of the country for 3 decades if he was a thief or as corrupt like may public tenants we know over the years, the grains in the Economy and infrastructure would never have been gained.

OPINION

Prof. Mutebile is one of the most renowned Ugandan, African, and a celebrated Economist of International repute.

He has served with distinction thought his career as a permanent secretary, Governor, worked with the president's office during UNLF, and also with IMF and World Bank.

In recent times the Bank of Uganda where he is a Governor for over two decades, a lot has gone wrong under his reign occasioned by bad politics and poor leadership in the country especially the executive, wrong elements within the central bank.

In doubt, whether the scandals and the scam that has gone as in BOU has anything to do with the integrity as the Governor, it is a combination of the failure of political leadership, mafia networks that have undermine the effective running of public institutions including central bank.

It is possible the evil forces with BOU have taken advantage of Prof. Mutebile sickness, weak physical state and occupied the space, stealing from Ugandans, weakening, destroying banks hence the country's economy.

Prof. Mutebile has been pivoted in ruling Uganda's economy for a quarter of a century, so he should be hailed.

Few persons of distinction like Prof. Mutebile are a sacred cow we should not kill at the altar of forces of darkness. He has made an indelible mark.

The great works, exploits will immortalize him. The great enduring legacy of Prof.Mutebile should not be thrown to wind after over 50 years in Public life and serving diligently.

We cannot afford to be a society that celebrates evil, corrupt people and we abuse blackmail, men, and women who are incorruptible like Prof. Mutebile but caught up in a bad system.

The ugly scenes, coverage of commendations on Prof. Mutebile reminds us of Mathew Rukakaire, a dusting wished gentlemen, clean, decent politician .human being who was sacrificed when Mafias sold Uganda  Commercial  (UCB) and abused the privatization process which ugly voices we still grapple with today.

Will History side with these great men of character like Prof. Mutebile, Rukakaire, Eriya Kateregeya who enjoyed at the highest echoless of power yet never stole anything of public funds.

Prof. Mutebile has been in charge of the granary of the country for 3 decades if he was a thief or as corrupt like may public tenants we know over the years, the grains in the Economy and infrastructure would never have been gained.

The questions of the day in the country is not to kill the few "sacred cows" like Prof. Mutebile or damage the reputation of in doubtable characters that has served this country with dedication but rather identifying the chaff and the very corrupt should answer for their sins instead of fighting good people. It will discourage the very ouch who have done wonderful service to their motherland. We should be a society that celebrates our Heroes.

Prof. Mutebile has been generous, giving to the community, churches, charity. He has been advancing Education at Makerere University and other Institutions. He has been the vanguard of development. He has also contributed to the development of Kigezi Region, Uganda as a whole.

Prof. Mutbeile is a beacon of Hope, an inspiration of generation. Born in the Hills of Kabale, Kisoro Road, he has lived a life of progress and enduring legacy. An academic giant, commercial, famer, Banker, and Entrepreneur in his own night, he made an individual mark on the face of the Earth. We thank God for such a glorious life.

International bodies, magazine especially on Economy, Finance have captured his illustrious career and immense contribution.  He has been a life of impact. It has been an incredible journey of an extraordinary life. Prof. Mutebile inherited an economy in shoulders and has turned it around.

When History books are written about Prof. Mutebile and his generations, he should be remembered as the as the glue that held Uganda's Economy together, given letters with a golden Heart.

His name should be emboldened in the golden letters in the sky as a man of substance and academic process with universal perspective. "He belongs to the economy of Immortals." Let us uplift each other and applaud giants of our time whose service is indefatigable. Now look to the future, destiny and eternity.
