Two family members killed in an accident

- Two people were killed and one injured after a boda boda they were riding on was hit by a speeding lorry.

The accident happened in Oyam district, along the Kamdini - Gulu highway on Wednesday evening.

Oyam traffic police officer Basti Chemutai confirmed the incident and said two people from one family died on spot.

He said the boda boda rider Dicken Oyuku, 36, and his elder sister Jacinta Adele, 39, both residents of Kamdini town council, Oyam district died on the spot.

Chemutai said the vehicle, registration number UAP 504Z heading towards Kamdini knocked down the boda boda  UEV 463X that was heading in the opposite direction.

He noted that after the accident, the lorry driver took off but police impounded the vehicle and took it to Kamdini police station.

The surviving victim Patrick Munu said while they were approaching the vehicle, the rider tried to leave way but the lorry just continued to their side.

Police attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving and speeding both by the rider and driver.

The accident occurred 100 meters from the spot where Lt Col Simon Peter Oyoo ( a military assistant to Minister of State for Defence, Col Okello Engola) got involved in an accident when his vehicle, a Ranger Rover Registration number UAT 946U crashed into a parked lorry in June last year.

A soldier was killed in the accident.
