Pakistanis hail Shandana's election to top CPA job

The ongoing Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference is taking place at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort

The Pakistanis living in Uganda have hailed the election of their national Khan Gulzar Shandana as the chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP).

The election at the ongoing Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) taking place at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort on Tuesday saw her defeat Tara Rivers a legislator from the Cayman Islands.

Shandana, a qualified legal professional, promised to work hard to uplift the economic status of the women in the Commonwealth.

"Sincere congratulations to Madam Shandana upon winning the elections. You have the creativity and determination to do whatever you can dream. I hope you feel proud as Pakistani today and confident in your ability to rise to your next challenge. Celebrating the dedication you have shown on the way to this achievement," said Azhar Malik of the Pakistan society in Uganda.

The Pakistani delegation to the conference is led by Dr Fahmida Mirzaa, the federal minister and former Speaker of the Parliament of Pakistan and includes Syedah Saqlain, Pakistan's High Commissioner to Kenya.
