A new board of National Information Technology Authority- Uganda (NITA-U) has been inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Vincent Bagiire.
The new team, which is headed by John Musinguzi, on Thursday also took oath at the boardroom of the ICT ministry.
"The task at hand is enormous and can only be accomplished by solid members. I advise the team to join hands and see how we can move ICT forward for the betterment of the country," John Musinguzi, the new Chairman of the Board, said.
Bagiire said the new board comes in at a time when the country is working towards embracing the e-government system.
"The Board coming in has a big responsibility. We need to look at how citizens can access services online other than queuing in lines," Bagiire said.
Bagiire also urged the new board members to work on the need for integration of IT systems in the country to ease access of government services such as passports and other related documents.
The executive director James Saaka pledged to work with the board to fulfill the e-government services.
Recently, Government established the National Data Center (NDC) to spur e-governance and coordinate the process of digitisation of services in the country and data connectivity.
The NDC was launched by President Yoweri Museveni in July.
The new NITA-U board members include John R Musinguzi (chairperson), James Saaka (secretary), Dr. Amina Zawedde, Dr. Annabella Habinka Basaza Ejiri, Dr. Albert Richards Otete, Hon. James Kabajo Kyewalabika and Julius Peter Torach.
The seven-strong team starts work on October 1.
Pledging to work diligently to achieve the set targets, Musinguzi said he will be guided by Proverbs 3: 5-6.
